"The Spray 1895", two block woodcut on paper

In 1895, Joshua Slocum became the first person to single-handedly sail around the world in his 36' 9" sail boat "The Spray". It was the first voyage of its kind. His last two stops on the voyage was Newport RI, and Fairhaven MA.

Two 6” x 8” shina plywood blocks layered and hand-printed in black and burnt sienna oil based ink on 8" x 10" 30gsm Kitakata rice paper. Signed and numbered edition of 10. March 2022.

Note: These blocks were printed by hand, which means that each print is unique and will have slight variances in tone and texture. The two overlapping colors may not perfectly line up in certain areas of the print due to the nature of the printing process with deckled paper edges. Faint indentations may appear in the margins where the paper was pressed over the edges of the block.
